Carnegie Library – Carrick Branch

Passive House Rennovation

Pittsburgh, PA

CLIENT: Thoughtful Balance & NK Architecture

DESCRIPTION
Carnegie Library’s Carrick branch received a major overhaul to become the country’s first Passive House certified library. During the redesign process staff members, visitors, and workers alike were all interviewed to get an understanding of what the project needed outside of energy efficiency requirements. At completion in October of 2018, the 8,000 sq. ft. library is now nearly twice the size but consumes only 40% of the energy required before.
