The Kansas City Business Journal recently published an article highlighting the key features of Staengl Engineering’s & Arnold Development’s 2ND + Delaware Project, showcasing that a building does not have to sacrifice amenities, affordability, or comfort to achieve high energy-efficiency standards. Once completed, 2ND + Delaware will be 330,000 sq. ft. of luxurious but affordable living, making it the largest Passive House-certified building in the world. The project will include a 34,000 sq. ft central courtyard, a 16,000 sq. ft usable ‘green roof’ for gardening, a saltwater pool, fitness and yoga centers, and multiple electric car-charging stations – all while renting at market rates and using 70%-90% less energy than a typical building of its type. Jonathan Cohn and Jonathan Arnold (leading developers on the project) see this as a “legacy” project, with the intention to build like we once did, designing to “…last hundreds of years” and become an integral part of the community.
